Receiving Protected Email
How do I read a protected email?
The American Express encrypted email will arrive in your email inbox like any other email message. It will consist of an email message with an html attachment that includes the embedded protected content. The format of the email and placement of the html attachment will vary slightly depending on your email client.
Open the html attachment. The method you use to open the attachment will vary depending on your email client. If using web-based email, download the html attachment and select Open, Opens in New Window, or Open in New Tab depending on your preference. Other email clients may require you to single or double-click on the attachment. The attachment should open into a browser window. The attachment can be viewed and edited in the browser window. Protected email can also be opened in browser window and 'Reply' or 'Reply All' can be done from the same.
The first time you receive an encrypted email from American Express, you will be onboarded through user onboarding process. The registration process will involve selecting a unique password for your account. You will then receive a verification email with a one-time password to complete the onboarding process and present you with the decrypted email content in your secure browser window. If you do not complete the onboarding process, you will have to start the onboarding process over by opening the html attachment in the original protected message.
Subsequent protected emails sent from American Express will also arrive as normal in your inbox and contain the html attachment with the protected email content. Open the html attachment using the same method explained previously. Your browser will be redirected to the secure login pages in the tool. Sign in using your unique password selected during the onboarding process. When you have entered your password in correctly, the protected email will be decrypted and presented to you in your secure browser window.
How do I access attachments sent to me?
All the protected attachments received through email are html wrapped. You can download them anytime and double click open them in browser. You can also edit the supported attachment formats in the browser itself.
